Winter Storm Dumping Snow In Northern Illinois

Posted: Updated:
Chicago, IL -

(FOX 11 / AP) Snow continues to fall in northern Illinois. The slow-moving winter storm that began Tuesday afternoon could bring up to 9 inches to some areas before it's all done on Thursday.

The heaviest snowfall is being reporting in Lake, McHenry, and DeKalb counties. By about 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the weather service says, 7.4 inches had fallen at Lake County's Beach Park and 7 inches in nearby Mundelein.

Several communities, including Genoa, Waukegan, Woodstock and Algonquin, all recorded at least 5 inches of snow and 3 inches fell at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport during the same period.

Chicago and counties to the north and west could see those totals rise by several inches depending on how much lake-effect snow falls in the area between late Wednesday and Thursday.
