ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia Tech has begun 2014 searching for a new quarterback after Vad Lee announces he will transfer to another school.

Lee, a rising junior, went 7-6 as the Yellow Jackets' starter, ending his career in Monday's 25-17 loss to Mississippi at the Music City Bowl.

Though both Lee and coach Paul Johnson released statements Friday saying they appreciated the chance to work with each other, Georgia Tech's spread offense was inconsistent during much of the season.

Johnson often publicly criticized Lee for making wrong reads and his teammates for missing blocks and failing to create space on the perimeter.

Justin Thomas, a rising sophomore, is listed No. 2 on the depth chart behind Lee.

Georgia Tech has lost five of six bowl games under Johnson, eight of nine overall.
