Old Spice Commercial Stuns Viewers With Concept

Posted: Updated:

There's a new Old Spice commercial getting tons of play on YouTube. It's gotten more than two million hits in less than a week. While some people may think the song is catchy, others are calling it creepy.

It's called the Mom Song. It first aired on TV Sunday, during the wild card game between San Diego and Cincinnati.

The song features a mom lamenting about how her son has become a man after using Old Spice. The mom surreptitiously follows the son through his whole relationship with a girl without him noticing. She pops up next to them, under them, behind them, and in various other places and awkward positions while she sings the lyrics and confesses her sadness to the viewers. She's an obvious helicopter parent.

Since being put on YouTube on January 3rd, the video has gotten more than 2.2 million hits.

Viewer Tony Bradley wrote, "Probably the creepiest thing you will see today...or maybe this month."

Monica Chen also wrote, "[C]reepiest commercial yet."

While shocking to some, other viewers found the video funny.

One viewer gave the video a new name. Paul Jewkes wrote in the comment section, "Creepy? Funny? How about we call it Crunny. Or Freepy?"

Many other viewers who enjoyed this commercial remarked that this should have been a Super Bowl commercial. A few have also suggested watching the video at half speed to really get a scare.
