Voice Command Feature On Cell Phone Helps Save Man

INDIANAPOLIS, IN -

The voice command feature on a cell phone is more than just convenient. It's a life saver for one Florida man, who got stuck under his truck in the freezing cold.

FOX'S Kate Burgess has the story.

At first Lisa Rutledge was slightly annoyed when she didn't hear from her husband Monday morning a truck driver for years. Tim always calls when he hits the road for the day.

"That's the only morning he never really called me so I just still can't believe that he didn't," Lisa said.

Turns out that slip might have saved Tim's life. He was at an Indianapolis truck stop on Monday morning his brakes had frozen overnight and Tim got underneath the rig to check them out. That's when the truck shifted in the snow, pinning him to the ground.

"It caught my left side and my left arm was pinned by the axle of the truck," Tim said.

Tim laid there for hours on one of the coldest days in recent Indiana history wind chills at negative 42 degrees. His phone in his pocket, Tim couldn't call for help.

"I wound up being froze to the pavement in the snow," Tim said.

Lisa knew something was wrong. She kept calling and calling the phone vibrating in Tim's pocket it eventually dropped to the ground. His hands too frozen to dial, Tim finally got the voice command to make one call.

"I remember saying, I said whoever this is, whatever you do don't hang up the phone. If they hung up the phone is was going to be my last chance to talk to anybody," Tim said.

It was his supervisor who was able to pinpoint Tim's location and alert employees at pilot that he was stuck. They rushed to dig him out and hours after her first worried phone call, Lisa finally got a call back from the EMS workers who revived her husband.

"I thought about our kids and grandkids and that we just had Christmas. I was just thankful he was still alive," Lisa said.

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
