NORTHFIELD, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A south suburban woman is at least the 12th reported cold-related death this winter in Cook County.

A neighbor called police at 8:25 a.m. Thursday after he saw Lynda Eads, 57, lying in the snow outside her home in the 700 block of Southwest Highway in Worth, Chief of Police Martin Knolmayer said.

Eads was last seen alive Wednesday evening leaving a neighbor's home where she had been drinking, he said.

While she was walking home she either passed out or slipped and fell. Knolmayer said no foul play was suspected.

She was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:31 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

An autopsy conducted Friday found Eads died of hypothermia, cold exposure and alcohol intoxication, and her death was ruled an accident, the medical examiner's office said.
