Detroit Police Chief James Craig and members of the Detroit Police Department unveiled their new strategy to fight crime in the city.

DETROIT- Chief of Police James Craig and his executive team submit to you, the 2014 Plan of Action.

At the beginning of my tenure I promised the citizens of this great city that I would bring their Detroit Police Department to a premier law enforcement agency status. It is with great pride and confidence, that I submit to you this Plan of Action.

In keeping with my promise to be transparent and forthright, this plan can be downloaded from the city of Detroit's website by following the prompts to the police departments' web page. We as your Detroit Police Department are committed to working towards a better and safer Detroit for us all. We recognize there is much work to do and look forward to working with you to ensure that we meet and exceed not only our goals, but your expectations as well.

Our goals are as follows:
·    Reduce overall crime by 10%
·    Reduce response time to 5 minutes for all Priority One Calls for Service
·    Increase the clearance rate for Homicides to 70%
·    Achieve 100% compliance with the mandated Department of Justice's consent judgment by end of the 2nd Quarter of 2014
·    Hire 150 new police officers by the end of the 2nd Quarter of 2014
·    Deploy Detective in each of the 12 precincts by the end of the 1st Quarter of 2014
·    Ensure that the members of the DPD receive adequate training and equipment to perform at optimal levels and continue to focus on improving the overall working environment of our officers
·    Improve our relationships with our community by engaging in sustained problem oriented policing exercises with an emphasis on reducing the fear and perception of crime within the City of Detroit
·    Open stand alone precinct facilities for the 5th, 7th, and 8th precincts by the end of 2014
