Body Language Expert Analyzes Governor Christie's Apology

Posted: Updated:

It's the talk from town to town in New Jersey. Thursday Governor Chris Christie said he was blind sided by the emails and text messages linking some of his front office staff to the Fort Lee lane closures.

"He's normally a pretty straight shooter and an honest guy," said Nick Weeks of Williamstown. He said he believes his Governor but others have their doubts.

"I understand he said that he is not a bully. Unfortunately I feel like I've seen some examples of him being a bully. So I question what really happened," said Jean Metz of Moorestown. Lynne Devine of Cherry Hill said whether Christie knew or not she feels he is just as much to blame as his deputy chief of staff Bridget Anne Kelly who he fired.

"I don't think someone's chief of staff would have done that unless they thought the boss would be pleased . I think you set an atmosphere. I think you set a tone of ethics and that comes from on high. I don't believe she just acted independently without feeling as if it was ok with him to do that whether he had specific knowledge or not. He set a tone," said Devine.

Tonya Reiman also watched the Governor's press conference but from a different perspective. She's a body language expert.

"Sometimes as he's speaking he'll stick his tongue out of his mouth and that's almost like I wish I could take back what I just said. So he'll make a statement and then stick his tongue out and that's a deception cue," said Reiman. She went on to say, "The Governor is holding onto the podium a lot. These aren't things we typically see from him. When you're grasping onto the podium it's almost like your saying you need something to hold onto. At one time I would say he appeared angrier but is the anger because everyone in his world has been caught or is he angrier because he's kind of been fooled. That's the question," said Reiman.
