Studies: Pressing Snooze Not Beneficial For Sleep

Hitting the snooze button may actually be doing you more harm than good!

According to doctors, hitting snooze can disrupt our circadian rhythms, making it even more difficult to get up. Naturally, the human body prepares for the waking state by raising body temperature, releasing chemicals and getting into a lighter state of sleep.

When you snooze, your body re-enters the sleep cycle from the beginning, so instead of the body preparing to wake up, it prepares for deep sleep instead. The second alarm, as a result, might make you feel more tired! And then you press snooze again, and your body repeats this vicious cycle.

Plus, fragmented sleep can result in moodiness and trouble paying attention during the day.

Doctors suggest going to bed one and a half hour earlier or setting your alarm for later. Also, turning off all electronics at least one hour before bedtime will help you ease into bed easier.

In the end, remember the old adage, you snooze, you lose.
