Female MMA Fighter Training: The Warrior Spirit

Posted: Updated:

They're tough, smart, and can kick some major butt. More women are entering competitive mixed martial arts, a sport where athletes use any style of martial arts to take down their opponent.

From grapple holds to punches and kicks these women train for hours and have to make their weight class all for a chance at a title.

Kristy Lopez trains at Legends MMA in Hollywood and is competing in her first Pro division match this Saturday.  She says, "every women is a warrior and this is a chance to express that and feel strong and healthy."

MMA athlete Lila Smadjia says it "empowers women and helps build confidence and power."

Legends MMA Owner and coach Chris Reilly says he's seen more women join the sport because of it's mainstream popularity and "now, it's all about being smart beautiful and strong, and that what many women aspire to be."
