GOP candidates debate at suburban Chicago forum

Posted: Updated:
MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. (Associated Press) -

Raising the state's minimum wage and pension reform are among the top topics at a Republican gubernatorial candidate forum in suburban Chicago.

It's the first time the four candidates are on a stage together in 2014.

Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford says he doesn't support a wage increase. State Sens. Bill Brady and Kirk Dillard are also against an increase, though Dillard has voted for one previously. He says that's when times were better.

Businessman Bruce Rauner says he'd support an increase if there are first business reforms. Previously he'd said he wanted to lower the state's rate.

Among the candidates, only Brady supports a recent pension overhaul. He says votes against the reform gives Democrats more reason to extend the income tax increase that expires next year.
