Cobb County man in medically-induced coma after stabbing

Posted: Updated:

A Cobb County man is in a medically-induced coma after being stabbed in the heart.

Police say 28-year-old Jeffery Nelms was stabbed outside of a Marietta bar after an argument Saturday. Authorities said the dispute began when 28-year-ol d John Meyer hit on a woman who was in Nelms' group. Meyer pulled out a pocketknife and stabbed Nelms in the chest, according to police.

Meyer was arrested and released on a $35,000 bond.

Nelms remains in an intensive care unit after having emergency heart surgery earlier this week, according to his wife.

Nelms' family has set up a fundraiser to help pay for the medical bills of Jeffery, who did not have insurance. To contribute, visit: youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/jeff-nelms-fundraising-/126287
