The NFL is reportedly considering doing away with extra points.

Commissioner Roger Goodell told NFL Media's Rich Eisen on Monday that the league is accepting proposals to replace it. "The extra point is almost automatic," Goodell said. "I believe we had five missed extra points this year out of 1,200 some odd (attempts)."

Yahoo! backs up Goodell's claim, saying kickers had a 99.6 percent success rate in 2013.

One possible proposal would be to give a team seven points for a touchdown, and then, give them the option to go for an extra point, which would make up for the loss of the two-point conversion. If the try is no good, the team would only get six points for the touchdown.

The top 17 scores in the NFL this season were all kickers.
