ATLANTA -

Atlanta police have made an added emphasis on security at local schools. More than 50 armed and specially-trained officers now patrol local schools.

The focus on security was heightened last August after shots were fired at Price Middle School.

School managers got together with Atlanta Police Chief George Turner, who made a commitment to add full-time, fully-armed officers to patrol hallways.

Frederick Douglass High School Principal Eldrick Horton said the officers assigned to his school are an important part of his comprehensive safety plan.

"You are going to see police officers who are floating in critical areas," Horton said.

Teachers and administrators told FOX 5's Morse Diggs that they felt safer with the added security measures.
