Tonight Anthony Romo says he's "shell shocked." He just got fired - actually the entire staff of Career Colleges of America just got their pink slip. An email from the owners of the financially troubled school went out today saying CCA is officially ceasing operations and, "at this time," the owners say, "we are officially terminating all staff and faculty employment, effective today."
In their letter, the owners of LA-based Career Colleges of America say over the past few months they've tried to find a way to help students continue on with another college. They say they've been unsuccessful.
For those who haven't followed this story some 800 students got loans for as much as $30,000 to go to this school to learn trades like being a surgical technician. CCA has had serious financial problems and lost accreditation. Not only are students unable to finish their courses, but they don't know for sure if they'll be able to get those loans forgiven.
Today, dozens of students met with members of the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles. LAFLA and Congresswoman Janice Hahn's office are working to help the students get forgiveness for their federal student loans and other reimbursement. Robyn Smith with the school says students have rights.
Back to Anthony Romo, the email he just got may not be a surprise, but he's out $4000 in pay he claims he hasn't gotten since November and wonders if he'll ever see a dime. This while students wonder about the careers that now may or may not be.
