"Wash House" drug bust: 22 pounds of meth found inside Phoenix home

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

Phoenix Police raided a home Thursday and made a big drug bust -- and we're not talking pot -- they found 22 pounds of methamphetamine.

Officials say a patrol officer stopped a suspicious car in the area and after some investigating, they ended up at the home near 75th Avenue and Montecito.

Officers say the house was being used as what's called a "wash lab," which means the suspects were basically taking the finished product, cleaning it up and converting the meth into a more potent form, called "ice."

Besides finding the drugs, police found supplies.

"The equipment that's used.. it's really rudimentary. We're basically talking buckets and hardware store chemicals that are being used to extract the methamphetamine and re-crystallize it into the glass or ice form," said Sgt. Don Sherrard.

Two people were taken into custody.  Their names were not released.

Neighbors in the area say the people who lived in the home had been there for about a month.

Police are trying to determine if anyone else is involved and where the drugs were coming from.
