Tornado Watches Canceled, But Chance Of Snow Later This Weekend

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Tornado Watches have now been canceled for the entire Philadelphia area, and we'll be drying up tonight. But there is a chance of some wintry weather toward the latter part of the weekend.

The last Tornado Watches were canceled for parts of Delaware and New Jersey shortly after 3:30 p.m.

Rain showers and gusty winds will linger through the afternoon, and we'll get some clearing tonight.

There are some Flood Advisories still up for Chester and Kent counties.

The seven-day forecast has had a little bit of everything lately. First, dense fog dropped visibilities and brought drizzle to the area this morning.

The good news was that all of our temperatures were above freezing. In fact, we even got as warm as 70 degrees in parts of Delaware on Friday afternoon!

Then came a fast-moving cold front that brought strong to severe thunderstorms to the East Coast, from Florida up through our area.

There were flood concerns with the rain and snow melt potentially causing issues from ice jams and possible minor river and stream flooding street ponding and flooding basements where drains were clogged with snow.

So far, though, the issues have been relatively minor, with scattered lightning strikes and street flooding being the primary reports.

Don't put away your parka, snow shovel or the rock salt. Just use this time to regroup because winter, the groundhog says, is far from over.

Most of the weekend will be nice, with a high of 54 on Saturday and 50 on Sunday.

But we could even pick up rain and then an inch of snow Sunday night as a line of precipitation moves through the area.

We'll then dip back into the 30s for highs starting Monday, and there are more snow chances during the week.

Chief Meteorologist Scott Williams will have more details on the forecast on tonight's FOX 29 News at 5, 6 & 10.
