SoCal Cable Blackout Cuts Off Super Bowl to Many

Posted: Updated:

LOS ANGELES (FOX 11 / AP / CNS) - (UPDATE) Some Los Angeles area customers of Time Warner Cable experienced a service interruption that kept them from viewing part of the
the Super Bowl today.

Shortly after 5 p.m., Time Warner Cable reported via Twitter that it was working to fix an issue with its KTTV feed that was keeping some of its Los Angeles-area customers from viewing the game.

The event was viewable on the cable carrier's high-definition Fox channel, TWC reported.

Customers from Los Angeles to Ventura County to Riverside County were reporting that the non-HD channel froze during a Volkswagen commercial.

The interruption, which also affected the KCAL and KTLA standard definition signals, appeared to end around 5:50 p.m., some viewers reported.

"We have resolved a technical issue with the SD signal and apologize for the inconvenience to our customers. There were no issues with the HD signal," TWC spokesman Dennis Johnson said via email when queried about the interruption.

Time Warner Cable says its investigating a blackout on its standard-definition Fox channel in Southern California that cut off the Super Bowl telecast for its customers.

The company said in a Twitter message that it's working to resolve the problem, which is not affecting the Fox high-definition channel.

Hundreds of football fans are taking to Twitter to complain about the blackout, which occurred shortly before the halftime show. Two other Time Warner cable channels - KCAL-TV and KTLA-TV - were also blacked out.

It wasn't immediately clear how many customers were affected by the blackout.

Calls and email messages to Time Warner Cable spokesmen were not immediately returned.

The Seattle Seahawks were leading 29-0 over the Denver Broncos at the top of the third quarter.
