A Chance to Dream

Dreamers are students who entered the United States illegally when they were children and now dream about a college education.  A group of businessmen is now helping to make this dream a reality.  TheDream.US has created a $25 million college scholarship fund for undocumented students who received DACA and want to obtain a college education and give back to their communities.

It is estimated that 65,000 Dreamers graduate from U.S. high schools each year. Dreamers are not eligible to receive financial aid and that is why 12 institutions have pledged to support these students.  The group has received grants from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Inter-American Development Bank, and Patty Stonesifer and Michael Kinsley, among others.  TheDream.US estimates that it will help send 2,000 immigrant youth to college over the next ten years.

According to TheDream.US, they award scholarships "for tuition and fees to DREAMers who have demonstrated financial need, academic achievement, and a high motivation to succeed and are accepted to attend one of our partner colleges." For more information go to http://thedream.us/.
