Zimmerman vs. DMX: Making Money On A Killing? Just Say No

Posted: Updated:

This will be quick.

The man who shot and killed Trayvon Martin has come up with the idea of a celebrity boxing match to raise money for… charity. Now there's a word he should look up. But let's move on to "celebrity". Celebrity is a word mostly associated with fame, not Infamy. George Zimmerman was acquitted of the murder charge against him but he still shot and killed another human being who, in court, was never proven to have been doing anything wrong.

A human life. Nothing is more valuable. And to base a money-making boxing match on the notoriety of the man who took that life is nauseating.  Boxing promoter Damon Feldman is producing the event and rapper DMX was supposedly chosen from a field of 15,000 applicants who all want a chance at settling the score with Zimmerman. One might understand their hate; their desire for revenge but this is no way to deal with that.

Two components to this morally bankrupt Thunderdome are still to be determined; the charity that will accept the blood money and the venue to host it on March 15th--  Two final chances for decency to win out.

I wrote a blog about heroin addiction Tuesday where I recalled the futility of the "Just Say No" campaign of the 1980's. But in this case, there is no addiction to defeat clear thought and common decency. Everyone approached by this promoter can just say no.
