(WJBK) -

The teenager in a coma at Henry Ford Hospital after being shot and left for dead nearly a week ago has been identified as Amir Irvin. His 15th birthday was Wednesday, the day the story aired on FOX 2.

"I watched the 10 o' clock news and as soon as I heard he was missing for five days, gut feeling, just knew it was him," says Amir's aunt Ruby Davis.

Police told FOX 2's Taryn Asher Wednesday no missing persons report had been filed that coincided with Amir's circumstances, yet Davis says the family did file a report and has called every Detroit hospital.

"We asked the hospitals did they have any John Does, period. Do you have anybody that has nobody came to see, or any black males, teenagers - our son is missing; our nephew is missing. We told Henry Ford Hospital, Children's Hospital, Harper - everywhere," Davis says.

Sources tell Asher that Amir was on probation and was supposed to turn himself in to juvenile court, but he ran away. How he ended up inside a dark gray Suburban with a gunshot wound to the head is still a mystery. The Suburban had not been reported stolen and was registered to a bad address.
