The First Female Fire Pilot In Southern California

Posted: Updated:

Hate and fear, that is what drives male chauvinistic pigs.  I'm talking about misogynists--men who hate women. They try to hide it but that hatred always rears it's ugly head. These are men who can't stand to see women succeed in whatever field they choose. It's especially true, if that field is predominantly occupied by men.

This week, I did a story on Desiree Horton. She's the first female pilot hired by a fire department in Southern California.  Most of the reaction was positive. Many people, especially women think of Horton as a positive role model.  But not everyone was happy to see a woman achieve something she's worked for all her life. Some men had the most ridiculous reaction. These haters wrote that she could only fly on selective days because of her period.  And, that any woman can get the job as long as she gets breast augmentation.  One wrote, "She's gonna crash sooner or later." That's just a sample of the crap that is out there.

Well… boys, it's 2014. Women can and will do anything they set their minds to.  Get used to it!
