Tech Check: Tech Check: Fitness app helps charities

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

We are halfway through February and you might be slowing down on meeting your fitness goal. But a smartphone app has the ability to energize your workout routine and help your favorite charity all at the same time.

The folks at Verizon Wireless showed FOX 5 a great smartphone app called Charity Miles.

"Every mile you walk, run or bike, a corporate sponsor will donate per mile to whatever organization you choose," said Torrey Cardinalli.

It is easy to use. Once you start the app, you will be asked to pick the charity and then it is as simple getting moving. For every mile that is walked or run, Charity Miles donates 25 cents to the charity you choose. Every biked mile earns 10 cents a mile.

There are some great charities from which to choose. Included are charities for pets to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, Standup for Cancer, Austism Research, the environment and more.

"It makes improving yourself synonymous with improving others," said Cardinalli.

Charity Miles is available for both Android and Apple devices.

It is a debate between what type of technology you need to get for your student. The question now, should you get a laptop or a tablet?
