Exclusive: DiCaprio talks movies and the elusive Oscar

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - He is one of Hollywood's biggest stars. And he's long overdue for an Oscar. We are talking about Leonardo DiCaprio.

"We make these movies and we spend nine months of our lives and sometimes directors spend years of their lives focusing all their efforts into making something special and long lasting" he said. "Of course I'd like to be recognized, as would everyone else."

Earning his first Academy nomination at 18 for his compelling performance in What's Eating Gilbert Grape, the bankable leading man has continued to dazzle audiences in The Aviator, The Departed and now, The Wolf of Wall Street… his fifth film with Martin Scorsese and his most divisive role yet.

"This is a wild, debaucherous tale of a man that lost his mind in the world of Wall Street and went far overboard and we don't see these films getting made that often" DiCaprio said.

Arguably the crowning achievement of his career, The Wolf of Wall Street reaffirms no one humanizes tormented characters or their addictions like DiCaprio does.

Even though he has never taken drugs, we asked him how he's managed to portray drugged up characters so well. "I was around it a lot in my youth, I've done a couple films researched drug use and Jordan Belfort, the guy who I'm portraying in this film rolled around on the floor and showed me what it was like" he said. "And then there was this other great YouTube video called the drunkest man in the world…that shows the motivation of a man who's completely out of his mind but drives forward constantly with ambition."

No stranger to ambition himself, DiCaprio fought for several years to produce The Wolf of Wall Street with Scorcese at the helm. Seeing it made his way, is a victory in itself he said.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
