Another police department is now involved in the search for the man who raped an Emory student earlier this month.

Decatur police say the last few days they have been inundated with calls from people who say they have seen the suspect.

It started with a warning to young women who were out late at night near campus, but the investigations has since spread its shadow beyond Emory University. The investigation has moved several miles away off campus and this time, in broad daylight.

Decatur Police are investigating a 17-year-old's claim that while walking near Clairmont Road and Erie Avenue Friday afternoon, a man who seemed to match the image of the sketch compiled by the GBI of the rapist, just without a beard, abruptly changed the direction he was walking and began to closely follow her.

Police say the teen ran to a nearby church while the man left the area.

"It's not a good feeling to walk out of your house and not feel safe," said DeKalb County resident Chaya Feldman.

But that is the reality for many right now. The feeling started February 11th when an Emory student was raped in a wooded area just off campus.

Emory Police release the sketch of the suspect and a week later, the DeKalb County Police Department release another sketch they believe to be the same man. He is wanted for trying to attack three different women between December and January not far from Emory.

"I would just hope as a community, people can work together. That if they see something suspicious, or something that doesn't seem right, they might report it," said DeKalb County resident Matt Whittington.

And that is exactly what is happening. Decatur Police say they have been inundated with 911 calls from people saying they have seen the man walking residential streets. At this point, investigators say they cannot say for sure it is the same wanted man.

But like both Emory and DeKalb County police, Decatur is also ramping up patrols in the same areas where he may have been spotted.

"I've lived here all my life, so it's never been a scary place for me. So thinking about that, that there is someone here doing things like that, it's unusual I think, to think about that happening here," said DeKalb County resident Bethany Benz.

Police say another who believes they may have spotted the man in the sketch should call police immediately.
