A 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly causing a shed to catch on fire while two people and a dog were inside.

Daykota Rayne Varner set paper on fire within a few feel of a shed near I-17 and Deer Valley Road on Feb. 21, according to a police report.

A man, a woman and a dog were living in the shed and were inside at the time.

A police report states the dog died in the fire and the two people were severely injured with major burns on their face, torso and limbs.

According to Phoenix fire Capt. Steve Franklin, one of the people may not survive.

The fire destroyed the shed, a large amount of debris in the yard next to the shed and a wooden fence that separated the property line.

During an interview, Varner admitted to setting the fire and claims he did it because he was angry with the man inside the shed, a police report reveals.

Varner was arrested and faces charges of arson of an arson of an occupied structure, endangerment, shoplifting and failure to appear.
