Two Paramedics Busted For Drug Use

Posted: Updated:

Citrus County Sheriff's deputies say their raid on the quaint home of an EMS paramedic in Inverness turned up tools that are used in a meth lab.

Pipes, tubes and chemicals like Drain-O, Sudafed and lighter fluid.

"You didn't see much activity on the outside, so I didn't know what was going on inside," said neighbor Ricki Bullock.

Nature Coast EMS paramedic Jeffrey Kehr, his girlfriend, Stephanie Smith, and his ambulance partner, EMT Heather Carson, allegedly admitted to home-cooking after Wednesday's raid.

"It does stir you up a bit because you don't think something like this is going to happen in your neighborhood," said Bullock.

But deputies say they brought they may have been under the influence while at work. They arrested Kehr and Carson at their ambulance jobs. Kehr allegedly had meth and a meth pipe in his pocket.

Detectives say he admitted to smoking up while working as a paramedic and Carson admitted to helping him make it.

The head of Nature Coast EMS, Mike Hall, says the pair went on between fifty and sixty calls over the last several months.

They say they have not received any complaints stating the service they provided was less-than-excellent.

But, they are going to go back and check.

"We are shocked and outraged that this happened," said Hall. "That two of these individuals tarnished the image and the service that we provide to the citizens of Citrus County."

Hall says they passed a background check and a drug test when they started the middle of last year.

"We also have a program, if we suspect anything, that we are going to test someone," said Hall. "We never had that happen with them."

Two kids were also removed from the home, and are now under state care.
