Iron Chef Morimoto dreamed of a baseball career before Japonais

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Renown chef Masaharu Morimoto is one of the most celebrated chefs in the world. Now you can taste his incredible culinary creations right here in Chicago, at Japonais by Morimoto!

Morimoto is the man behind some of the most acclaimed sushi restaurants in the world. He recently gave Chicago landmark Japonais his signature facelift, turning it into the premiere destination for authentic Japanese cuisine.

But the "Iron Chef" didn't always dream of holding a knife in his hand. The thing about dreams is that they can change, evolve and adapt – and so can the dreamer. He dreamed not of welding a blade, but a bat. A high school shoulder injury changed his plans for a career in baseball.

Morimoto is known for his beautiful and elaborate presentations, which he says helps ease the fear that people tend to feel about eating raw fish.

Despite his world-wide fame, he still can't help but dream of joining one of our great Chicago sports teams.

Dreams - we all have them, but hopefully we have more than one. If Chef Morimoto has taught us anything, it's that sometimes the backup plan is the best plan of all.

Chef Morimoto gave Good Day Chicago's Jake Hamilton and Jon Kelley an incredible behind the scenes look at his signature style, which you can experience at the River West sushi restaurant.

Check out Japonais' Facebook page to find out the latest they have to offer and make a reservation on Open Table today!
