Delco Postal Carrier Accused Of Stealing Cash, Gift Cards

Posted: Updated:
CLIFTON HEIGHTS, Pa. -

When customers of the U.S. Postal Service in Clifton Heights drop their cards and letters in the mail box here, they expect them to get delivered, not stolen, but that's just what postal carrier Amina Medley is now accused of doing.

"Very troublesome, bothersome to me personally because I rely on the postal system," said postal customer Joe Rosanio Jr. as he dropped off mail at the Clifton Heights Post Office.

"It's terrible, terrible," another customer told FOX 29.

The 20-year-old Medley had a nice job delivering mail for U.S. Postal Service. She made a good salary. She even drives a nice car. But now Medley is facing theft, receiving stolen property and other charges for stealing mail from post office boxes across town. A Postal Service Inspector General's sting operation caught her red handed with cash and gift cards.

"It's uncalled for, uncalled for. I don't understand why people would stoop that low, they get paid pretty well here," said Joe Masticola, another post office customer.

"I'm just disappointed, I just can't believe in our community of all communities," said Cameron James who knew Medley from delivering mail in his neighborhood.

A police affidavit says Medley was caught with $200 in marked money and 14 open letters in her mail satchel. She later admitted opening 15 letters and removing $320 in cash and gift cards in one day. Police found 14 more gift cards in her car none of which makes post office customers very happy.

"It's kind of disturbing, there's a lot of people out there sending gifts to people for Christmas or birthdays," Masticola added.

Medley is the second postal carrier this year to be arrested in Clifton Heights. Last May, a carrier was charged with stealing $340 from six victims in a similar sting operation. All but one charge was dismissed.

"As a whole, I have faith in this post office and the postal system," Rosanio said.

Medley was charged and released on $10,000 bail. She faces a preliminary hearing on these misdemeanor charges, but probably not much jail time.

A spokesman for the Inspector General's Office says Medley has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
