A Lesson In Gratitude

Posted: Updated:

This week I started my third month here at FOX11.  After nine weeks, I can confidently say I have a good lay of the land behind the scenes.   After all, I know where the closest restroom is and where the fresh coffee is brewed.  But more importantly, I now know my colleagues much better and today I got the chance to say what I appreciate about my on-air family,  and it proved to be a healthy exercise.

It was for a promo shoot that will hit the airwaves soon enough.  So, imagine an interview-style format in which our promotions manager sat me in front of a camera and asked me several questions; questions like: "What do you love about working with Steve? What does Lisa Breckenridge bring to the show? Why do you think viewers love watching Julie Chang's entertainment segments?"

Simple enough, right?  I mean it's obvious why I love working with Steve.  He keeps me on my toes.  Plus, he's a TV legend who ought to go on Jeopardy,  because there's not much that man doesn't know.  As for Lisa B., she is ever so versatile, witty and always entertaining.  And, then there's Ms. Julie and her contagious laugh and bright smile.  Plus, she has the inside scoop on all things Hollywood.  What's not to like?  Of course, I also fielded questions about Maria S., Maria Q., and our man in the sky, Rick Dickert.

In all, the shoot lasted just under an hour, and I walked away feeling really good about reflecting on my new colleagues.  In fact, I highly recommend you do the same.  Take a moment to think about what you appreciate about your co-workers.  For me, the basic Q&A has inspired a heightened sense of gratitude for being able to work with such talented people.  Perhaps, you'll experience the same.  Go ahead, be grateful.
