Jane Fonda: It's About The Feelings That Teens Need to Know

Posted: Updated:

Jane Fonda admits she lied about losing her virginity to friends at school because she 'wanted to fit in.'

Fonda, who's 76 now, was talking about the difficulty of coming to terms with her sexuality as a teenager, but she wouldn't say exactly how old she was when she first had sex.

"One of the things I say in the book," whose full title is "Being a Teen: Everything Teen Girls & Boys Should Know About Relationships, Sex, Love, Health, Identity & More" is often [young people] hear from their peers that everybody is 'doing it.' Not true," she told the Today show.

Jane Fonda joins Steve Edwards, Maria Sansone and Lisa Breckenridge on Good Day L.A.

Fun Facts About Jane Fonda: (Source: Wikipedia)

1) She is an American actress, writer, political activist, former fashion model, and fitness guru. She rose to fame in the 1960s with films such as Barbarella and Cat Ballou and, with interruptions, has appeared in films ever since. She has won two Academy Awards, an Emmy Award and seven Golden Globe Awards (including 3 special awards) among many other accolades. She announced her retirement from acting in 1991, but returned to film in 2005 with Monster in Law, and later Georgia Rule, released in 2007. She also produced and starred in several exercise videos released between 1982 and 1995.

2) Fonda has been an activist for many political causes; her opposition to the Vietnam War and associated activities were controversial. She has protested the Iraq War and violence against women, and describes herself as a feminist. In 2005, she, Robin Morgan and Gloria Steinem co-founded the Women's Media Center, an organization that works to amplify the voices of women in the media through advocacy, media and leadership training, and the creation of original content. Fonda currently serves on the board of the organization. She published an autobiography in 2005. In 2011, she published a second memoir, Prime Time.

3) Fonda became interested in acting in 1954, while appearing with her father in a charity performance of The Country Girl, at the Omaha Community Playhouse. After dropping out of Vassar, she went to Paris for two years to study art. Upon returning to the states, in 1958, she met Lee Strasberg and the meeting changed the course of her life, Fonda saying, "I went to the Actor's Studio and Lee Strasberg told me I had talent. Real talent. It was the first time that anyone, except my father — who had to say so — told me I was good. At anything. It was a turning point in my life. I went to bed thinking about acting. I woke up thinking about acting. It was like the roof had come off my life!"
