Preview of new 'Cosmos' series on FOX

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson is taking viewers on a wild ride in the new FOX series, 'Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey.'

The 13-part docu-series follows in the footsteps of the Carl Sagan documentaries about the cosmos more than three decades ago. The show is executive produced by Seth McFarlane.

"You will learn our place in space and in time. Once we zoom away from earth and we drop you in the multi-verse (multiple countless other universes) we look at the connectivity to the rest of what we have out there," said Dr. Tyson, who hosts the series.

The universe which is 13.8 billion years old is presented in an easy to understand -albeit mindlowing- form:

“We put the time line of the universe on a year-in-a- glance calendar. That calendar is the size of a football field. Our galaxy formed March 15; our solar system formed August 31; writing began 14 seconds to Midnight on December 31; dinosaurs went extinct on December 30.  We are newcomers on the calendar. This kind of perspective is not only humbling, but it lifts you up. Maybe I’m empowered to be a better shepherd, that’s what distinguishes it from other documentaries," said deGrasse Tyson.

See for yourself Sunday, March 9 at 9 p.m. on FOX 5.

Attractive players in tennis, help or hurt?

The U.S. Open is underway in Queens and there's no denying that many of the players, both men and women, are in great physical shape and know how to play that up. Women are particularly promoted in the industry as attractive, fashionable and fiercely competitive. Does that help the game and draw more people in?

A new app is bringing the star treatment to the masses. Glamsquad delivers a hair and makeup artist to your doorstep.I invited them over to my place. Kelly did my makeup and Erin styled my mane. They helped me select a look from examples on the app and they encouraged me to tweak the looks to fit my style.

A new reality show is bringing a sense of urgency to your television screen. The show 'The Singles Project' is shot Wednesday- Saturday and airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on Bravo. “That's what makes the show different. We're filming in real-time. We're really on a roller coaster and it's off the rails. The social media part is just another layer,” said Joey Healy, eyebrow stylist to the stars. Healy, Lee Gause, Tabazum Mir and Kerry Cassidy are among the cast members.
