Unique homes in New York City

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The bullet proof glass desk is one of the more "normal" things in David Boyle's Williamsburg, Brooklyn, home, which he shares with high school sweetheart, Janet. So what's it like living in a shipping container? Janet says it's very open and bright, warm in winter but cool in summer.

And some might say cool from the outside too. It's made of six shipping containers. But why? David gave us the simple answer.

The Port of Newark is chock full of shipping containers going nowhere. He purchased six for $1,500 a pop. He keeps models in his library. The real ones even came with free delivery.

David says he expects his steel containers to last 40 to 50 years and tells us his home, complete with a spiral staircase and two roof-top decks, is fully green.

Just like the so-called Lego house, which is what some people are calling a home in Queens. Others call it, well, other things. One person referred to the architect of this home as Frank Lloyd Crap.

Tom Paino is the actual architect and owner. He says he wants to bring attention to green homes and exteriors like his that is made from recycled material. It has no boiler, triple-glazed windows, and a soon-to-be rooftop greenhouse.

Burger chain Five Guys is testing the adage that everything tastes better with bacon. It is rolling out a customizable milkshake program and along with bananas, peanut butter, Oreo cookies, salted caramel, you can chose bacon.  Yes that's right: a bacon milkshake.

Timothy Cardinal Dolan gathered religious and city leaders with the focus of how to ease tensions between police and the community in advance of this Saturday's march to protest the death of Eric Garner. Some of the leaders in this group are rarely photographed together, let alone seated at the same table. But they were brought together over concerns about possible protest violence by the cardinal, one of the most powerful figures in the city and who commands respect across the board.

Pull out your smartphone on any given day, tap on Instagram and you'll find a lot of selfies. But while the rest of us clog our feeds with our best pouty faces, a group of photographers scales and then hangs off bridges and buildings in a contest to produce the most daring photograph in New York City.
