Mesa PD Investigate Shooting

MESA, Ariz. -

Mesa Police have identified the suspect and victim from a shooting at a nail salon in Mesa on Saturday afternoon.

Police say the victim, Tam Pham, is an employee of Elite Nails, and the shooting suspect, 36-year-old Dan Tran, is a former employee.  The shooting happened after 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mesa nail salon near Power Road & McKellips.

Robert Johnson was dropping his wife off at the nail salon when he saw the suspect surrender to police.  "He put up no fight, none, he just put his hands up and walked away," he says.

"He just sat on the telephone in his vehicle for quite some time, a sniper stood over here and kept a rifle on him for quite a few, maybe 5 minutes," said Johnson

The man was in an altercation with the victim when something made him snap and he opened fire. "There was an exchange of words between the two of them. At that point, our suspect, for whatever reason decided to open fire on the victim... Several witnesses we're trying to talk to we're hoping to find out more about the relationship and what the bad blood would have been that caused this shooting," said Steve Berry with Mesa Police.

The victim, Pham, was taken to a nearby hospital, and he is reportedly in stable condition and is expected to survive the shooting.  Police say the suspect, Tran, has been booked for one count of aggravated assault, three counts of disorderly conduct with a weapon and one count of reckless discharge of a weapon.
