California Mother Gives Birth On Highway

Posted: Updated:

The mother just couldn't wait any longer. She gave birth to her baby boy , Avery, in a speeding car in Sacramento, CA.

Rhiannon Edison was a few days away from her due date but had contractions around midnight last Thursday.

"I got a wake up at 11:50 saying it's time to go to the hospital," said the father, Jeremy Edison.

The couple jumped in the car to head to the hospital, but they didn't make it in time.

The baby's head was out and she knew the birth had to happen.

"I can't stop it. He's gotta come all the way out you know. One more contraction and his shoulders came out. I picked him up then laid him on my belly," recalls Rhiannon.

She continues, "his umbilical cord is around his neck so I unwrapped it three times unwrapped it then he went waaaa."

Her husband called 9-1-1 and they pulled off at the next exit.

"I was telling the 9-1-1 people, I'm taking the exit here at Mace and going to be at the Nugget Market and we were so lucky because the fire department is literally next door," remembers Jeremy.

Firefighters helped them get to the hospital safely.

Newborn Avery is healthy boy.

The Edisons say cannot wait to tell him this eventful story.
