You Have To Love Technology!

Posted: Updated:

Don't you wish everything was like computer technology?  Constantly getting better, smaller, and most importantly, less expensive!!  That's the case with lots of technology associated with News gathering.

Today's high tech News cameraperson is equipped with truly incredible equipment. One of the tools in their tool box is something coming into play at most News operations around the country. That's a piece of equipment that will stream live video and audio through the web using cellular technology.  Smaller and better came into play this week for one of our photographers who was tasked with repelling down a 13 story building in Pasadena, CA. while broadcasting live using one of our LiveU, live streaming,  backpacks. This was one of LiveU' newest backpacks in their inventory. It's about 5 lbs. total weight and allowed our photographer, Tony Buttitta, to repel down the building unencumbered by the weight and bulkiness's of the equipment. Our photo gallery shows how he had it on his back along with all the harness equipment used for his decent.

In my 40 years in this business, 21 of those years as a News photographer, I would never have imagined being able to share my live video with the world,  using a device literally the size of a box of cigars. UNBELIEVABLE !!!

With the 25th anniversary of the world wide web this week, you have to thank Tim Berners-Lee for his invention that has progressed our medium in boundless ways.  You can read about Tim in our Marla Tellez latest Blog.  Very interesting for those who were not aware of the creator of WWW.

Technology, you gotta love it!!
