ANTHEM, Ariz. -

A Phoenix mom who lost her teenaged daughter in a tragic murder-suicide is sharing the message, "Hug your kids every day."

15 year-old Ana Greer was killed on March 7th.

Phoenix Police say a boy she went to Sandra Day O'Connor High School with shot her and then himself.

On Sunday, at a fundraising event, Ana's mom received donations and gave hugs.

"She always said mom we need more hugs and I'd say Ana honey of course we do we need more hugs; she was a big hugger," said Ana's mom Diannah Dinsmoor.

Dinsmoor wants to spread the love that her daughter Ana no longer can.

"The little stuff does not matter, it's that you're there for each other, you love each other, that's what it's all about it. She loved everybody," she said.

At a fundraising event outside the Anthem Safeway Sunday, some shoppers heard of this heartbreaking story for the first time, others knew about the tragedy. Either way, shoppers dropped bills in donation buckets to help the non-profit group Hands Across Anthem pay for Ana's funeral.

"In order to accommodate the families wishes and taking her to California exceeded over thirteen thousand in expenses, and of course there's nobody that plans to lose their young loved ones like this at the age of fifteen," said Steven Ragan with Hands Across Anthem.

One of Ana's best friends teamed up with her mom to make bows that they're giving to everyone who donates.

The bows are colored black and pink; Ana's favorite colors.

"She loved black and pink, neon colors, and mismatched socks," said Dinsmoor.

Hot pink T-Shirts say "Hugs for Ana" and in addition to cash donations many people shared hugs with each other today.

"Ana loved life, she loved being alive, and we need to keep this alive for her," she said.
