A News Anchor's Week In Review

Posted: Updated:

Before many of you even had a chance to put your green on for St. Patrick's Day, we got off to a shaky start here in Southern California.  Monday morning brought that 4.4 magnitude quake in Los Angeles that didn't do any serious damage, though it did rattle quite a few nerves.  Which reminds me, have you gotten your emergency kit togetheryet?? Now's the time!

Tuesday proved to be tragic when a Seattle television news helicopter crashed into the morning commute moments after take-off.  The pilot and photographer on-board were killed.  Later we learned, the chopper being used that morning by KOMO-TV was a loaner, as the station's helicopter was in the shop.  This particular story hits home for our crew that flies in SkyFox nearly every day.

Wednesday, the 11th day of the search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight 370, saw a break in the case. Or so we were told.  Two large objects were spotted (on satellite images) floating in the southern Indian Ocean.  Could this be the missing plane? So far, search crews haven't found anything, but officials say these images are their best lead.  In the meantime, the families of the 239 people on board wait in anguish and despair.

Thursday sprung Spring at precisely 9:57a.m. and many of us in the Southland are left wondering: what happened to Winter?  While the sunshine is quite nice, though this weekend is expected to be cooler, we can't forget we're in a drought and need to do our part to conserve water!

Friday ushered in Joey McIntyre. The New Kids on the Block heartthrob paid us a visit on Good Day LA to talk about a cause that's near and dear to his heart: raising public awareness about Alzheimer's. McIntyre's mother suffers from the disease and next week he is performing at this year's Alzheimer's Association fundraiser "A Night At Sardi's." The celebrity musical-revue gala will be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, Wednesday March 26, 2014.  For more information, you can call (312) 335-5877. And, yes, I snapped a photo with McIntrye. Of course, I did.

He's got #TheRightStuff.

It's no secret that Microsoft has struggled in the hardware department so I can't say whether the Surface Pro 3 will be the hero Microsoft needs but I can say it is the modern computing experience users deserve. I love it and think you should too! Read on to find out why.
