If you've always wanted to attend one of those glamorous film festivals but haven't been able to make your way to Cannes or Toronto, you're in luck.
One local app developer has designed a new film festival that makes the festivities available for everyone.
Milan Shah is an app developer and the director behind the new "Film App Festival" – in part, a traditional film festival taking place this Saturday in Elgin, but also a ground breaking use of technology. The film festival is using a downloadable app to make more than 200 films available to movie goers whether you attend the festival or not.
As the red velvet rope of film festivals is opened to the general public, a question remains: what happens now? Is the exclusivity of the more prestigious film festivals around the world in jeopardy? Well, if the film app has anything to say about it, we all may be attending Cannes this year.
Available on your tablet or phone, the film app kicks off on Saturday along with the film app festival.
So forget the Oscars.
Who needs the judges?
You're the critic now.
Let's get to work.
The film app festival kicks off Saturday in Elgin at the Hemmens Cultural Center.
