Property manager catches apparent scrapper red-handed

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - A property manager was checking on his vacant property when he heard a scrapper upstairs.

Stan Jones announced that he had a gun, and ordered the scrapper to come downstairs with his hands up.

The property manager then held the man at the home on Drexel Street on the city's east side until Detroit police showed up.

Jones says many of the wires have been cut and the man was filling a suitcase with copper wiring. He had apparently been to two other homes that morning.

Jones says the damage the scrapper did will cost about $15,000 to $25,000 to fix - and that the scrapper would have only gotten about $50 or $75 at the scrapyard for the wiring.
