Jason Patric's Real Life Parent Drama

Posted: Updated:

If you Google Jason Patric's name these days you won't find much about his latest onscreen roles because he is very much focused on the real life drama currently playing out as he tries to prove he is more than just a sperm donor to a 4 year old boy named Gus.

The actor along with his attorney sat down with Steve Edwards and myself today on "Good Day LA" for a gut wrenching interview about his efforts to see the little boy he hasn't been able to see for more than a year now.

Patric says that he and his former girlfriend Danielle Schreiber conceived little Gus with the help of in vitro fertilization and he even went through a surgery himself to help their chances of having the child.

He says that he signed all the forms as "intended parent" but that he didn't put his name on the birth certificate to protect both Danielle and his little boy from the prying eyes of the public.

For whatever reasons their relationship went sour and now for the past year he hasn't been able to see the boy and is heartbroken.  They've been to court and due to a loophole in the law his lawyer says Danielle has been successful is keeping Jason away.  Ironically they told me if they had not gone to a clinic and handed the sperm to a Doctor he would have been able to stay involved (make sure you listen to the interview for that part, it's kinda crazy).

We reached out to Danielle's lawyer and they refused an interview, but past statements have included this from Danielle: "I allowed Jason to have contact with my son while we were dating, and even then he insisted that I keep his donation a secret and uphold our original agreement.  I never would have allowed this contact if I thought it would put my rights as a mom and the stability of my son's future at risk.  For me, this has never been about preventing contact, this is about preserving parental rights."

Be sure and check out the full interview from today's show.

Also Jason and his lawyer will be part of an event this April 4-5th at UCLA called "Fertility Planit" that's bringing today leading experts, celebrities and sponsors representing health, wellness, fertility, family planning and family equality services.
