Pa. tree trimmer survives chainsaw lodged In neck

Posted: Updated:
ROSS TOWNSHIP, Pa. - A tree trimmer in Pennsylvania is seriously injured on the job.

James Valentine, 21, a worker for Adler Tree Service, had been in a harness when the accident happened in Ross Township, Pa.

Valentine was struck in the neck with the chainsaw. A co-worker then climbed the tree and brought him down.

Police arrived at the scene where they found the blade stuck in his neck and shoulder.

After getting the motor off the chain, he was taken to a local hospital.

"It sounds bad and that's what happened. A chainsaw into the neck is bad and it sounds bad and it's accurate. He's very lucky that his co-worker was able to react as quickly as he did or it could have been a very different scenario," Sgt. Ben Dripps of the Ross Township Police Department said.

Valentine had surgery to remove the blade and is recovering.

Luckily, the chainsaw just cut into the muscle, missing his major arteries.
