MESA, Ariz. -

Rural Metro Fire Department officials say a middle-aged woman suffered extreme injuries to her arm while trying to break up a fight between her two dogs.

This happened Friday night near Ellsworth and Apache Trail.

"She came out to get away from the fight and to get some help because she was in bad shape," said Priscilla Whearty, a neighbor.  "She had some bites on her other arm, but her left wrist is almost all the way gone."

She was transported to Scottsdale Osborn Hospital in critical condition.  She is expected to survive.  Her name was not released.

Per Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies, both dogs are contained in the owner's home at her request.

Whearty tells FOX 10 the male and female dogs are a Pit Bull and Rottweiler.
