Fire destroys Norcross apartment building

An unattended candle ignited an entire apartment building and displaced a number of families early Monday morning.

It happened on the 1700 block of Ashley Run Court at the Reserve at Peachtree Corners Apartments.

According to Gwinnett County Fire, the fire started around 3 a.m.

Seven people, including five children and two adults, were in the apartment when the fire started. When firefighters arrived on the scene they found heavy smoke and flames showing from several apartment units.

Authorities say firefighters worked aggressively to contain the fire to the original building and protect nearby exposures.

Firefighters are still working to contain the fire at this 20-unit building.

The American Red Cross is on the scene and currently working with reisdents.
