East Point Bike Racing Track Celebrates 40 Years

Posted: Updated:
EAST POINT, Ga. -

Four decades ago, it was just an idea inspired by the Munich Olympics. Today, it's an East Point tradition celebrating a major milestone.

The Dick Lane Velodrome is best described as a concrete bicycle racing track, but regular riders know it's much more than that. Built in 1974, it's the only velodrome in the world with green space (including an oak tree and a creek) in the in-field. There's regular racing on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, and the East Point Velodrome Association (which manages the facility) also provides activities for kids there including bike safety clinics, summer camps, and the Youth Cycling League. This year's a big one, as the Dick Lane Velodrome celebrates 40 years of bike racing in East Point!

Good Day Atlanta's Paul Milliken spent the morning with riders at the Dick Lane Velodrome, and also decided to try out the track for himself! Click the videos above to see if there were any broken bones!

Ten time Ironman, Dave Nazaroff recently rode 900 miles on his bicycle...from Nyack, New York...to Georgia. He didn't do it to get in shape, or to win a competition; he did it to raise money for a 11 year old Callie Truelove in Gainesville, Georgia.
