DJ Cotrona & Zane Holtz: From Dusk Till Dawn

Posted: Updated:

D.J. Cotrona and Zane Holtz say "From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series" doesn't copy the original movie's storylines and characterizations; instead, they're used as more of a jumping-off point.

"I think if we completely replayed the movie, there wouldn't be as much point to watch the show," Holtz told Austin Monthly.  "From the midpoint of this first season, it really becomes it's own thing." As for season two, neither actor knows what will happen then.

And how about playing two iconic roles made famous by their big-screen portrayers, George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino.  Did that add any pressure?

"For actors, it can be daunting to do a reimagining of iconic work. But this isn't another director doing a version of these characters. This is Robert (Rodriguez, director of the original film and executive producer of the TV series) revisiting his own work. So the fact that Robert looked at us and said, ‘You're my guys,' really empowers us as actors."

D.J. Cotrona and Zane Holtz join Steve Edwards and Lisa Breckenridge on Good Day L.A.

After a few guest starring roles Cotrona was being considered for the role of Ryan Atwood on the television series The O.C. but that role went to Benjamin McKenzie. Shortly thereafter Cotrona was cast as the male lead in another of Fox's new dramas of 2003, the Jerry Bruckheimer produced Skin. Cotrona played Adam Roam, the son of the Los Angeles District Attorney. His character becomes involved with Jewel Goldman (Olivia Wilde), whose father runs a pornography company. With their fathers' feud looming over them they pursue their "Romeo and Juliet" relationship. Skin was cancelled after three episodes aired due to poor ratings and the controversial story lines. The eight episodes of the series were shown on SOAPnet in 2005.
