Two People Killed In Five Car OC Freeway Crash

(FOX 11 / CNS) Two people were killed today and five others were injured in a four-vehicle crash on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway in the Irvine area, authorities said.

All northbound lanes of the freeway near the Jamboree Road onramp were shut down after the crash, which occurred about 4:40 a.m., the California Highway Patrol reported.

Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said seven people were injured, two of whom died at the scene. Of the survivors, three were transported for hospital treatment of "moderate" injuries, one was transported for treatment of minor injuries, and one was treated at the scene, Concialdi said.

Concialdi said four vehicles were involved in the crash, which left debris strewn over a large area. The circumstances of the crash were under investigation.

A man and a woman were killed in a five vehicle crash on the northbound 5 freeway at Jeffrey in Tustin. The accident happened at 4:37 in the morning. Two vehicles were stopped in the HOV lanes. One was disabled the other driver stopped to help.

A gray Toyota Camry slammed into the two stopped vehicles. The Camry then hit two other vehicles before coming to a stop. The female driver and the male passenger inside the Camry were killed. The other four drivers involved in the crash were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Traffic was backed up on the five freeway in Tustin for several hours.
