Suspect in custody following chase, crash on Detroit's east side

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - Several injuries are reported following a police chase that ended in a crash on Detroit's east side.

Authorities say the pursuit began in Warren following a home invasion near Van Dyke Ave Thursday morning. Two teens were inside the home and startled the suspected intruder, who fled in a white SUV.

Warren police spotted the vehicle and pursued. The chase ended with a crash at Warren Avenue and Iroquois Street when the suspect collided with a Ford Escape.

Emergency crews responded to the scene. The SUV driver was taken into custody.

FOX 2's Ron Savage reports four people riding in the Ford Escape were taken to the hospital, including three adults and a 2-year-old child. Their injuries are said to be non-life threatening.

An accused rapist was also arrested during the chase. A woman flagged down a trooper driving by and said she had just been sexually assaulted. Lt. Michael Shaw says sergeants worked with her, searched abandoned homes and apprehended a person that matched the description.
