Kansas City, MO-Homeowners neglecting their duty to pick-up after their pooches has apparently become a messy problem for a Missouri neighborhood.
Now, an apartment complex in Kansas City is taking action.
Landlord, Karen Peevey, is making it mandatory for dogs to be swabbed in order to collect their DNA.
Then she’ll test the mess on the ground to catch the 'poopertrators."
"I’d never heard of it, so I thought it was kind of a scare tactic to get people to pick-up after their dogs. And then I went online and looked up the company, and I thought oh this is real," said resident Ann Gunther.
"We've tried sending notices to residents asking for their help, but it just kind of falls on deaf ears," said Peevey.“Knowing that you can actually be held accountable for your actions, encourages you to behave appropriately."
Residents seem to agree that it's an easy task.
"You know I think it is a pretty simple thing to do, to pick-up after your dog, and I've heard from other tenants it hasn't been that bad," said Gunther.
Residents have to front $35 for the DNA swab.
However, they get it back if their dog doesn't make a mess.
If their dog does leave behind something and they fail to pick it up then they could face a fine.
