Court orders new trial in deaths of 2 women

(WJBK) - A man sentenced to life for the murder of two women may be getting a new trial because of a mistake made by a judge's clerk.

Brandon Cain was sentenced to life in prison in 2012 for the murder of 18-year-old Abreeya Brown and 22-year-old Ashley Conaway. The two are said to have been murdered after tipping off police to Cain about another shooting.

As FOX 2 covered the story, it was made known the women were kidnapped, tortured and shot execution style.

Several other men were convicted for their roles in the women's deaths, while Cain is said to have been the leader.

Now, he may be getting a new trial because Wayne Co. Circuit Judge Vonda Evans' clerk apparently read the wrong oath to the jury, so they were sworn in improperly.

FOX 2's Andrea Isom reports the clerk read the oath reserved for potential jurors instead.

The prosecutor's office says it plans to appeal this ruling to the Michigan Supreme Court.
