Some campuses cracking down on fraternities

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Is behavior by college fraternities and sororities getting out of control? The 2013 death of a Baruch College student was ruled a homicide after he died in Pennsylvania during a so called fraternity ritual.

On Wednesday, a sorority at the University of Connecticut had its charter revoked after it was accused of forcing a member to lie on the floor, sizzle like bacon, and then drink alcohol until she passed out.

Now a fraternity at NYU, Alpha Epsilon Pi, could soon be getting kicked off campus. According to NYU, the 105-year-old international Jewish fraternity is facing violations such as serving alcohol to minors and "other activities that are out of line."

Dr. Susan Lipkins, a psychologist specializing in college hazing and bullying, said many colleges are taking the problem more seriously. She said it will escalate if people turn a blind eye.

Right now NYU's Alpha Epsilon Pi is not facing any hazing allegations. One student told Fox 5 the fraternity is actually good for the campus, often holding charity events. Others told me that their parties weren't out of the ordinary, either.
